A pressure transducer is a sensor typically used to convert a liquid or gas media to a proportional electrical signal. Cooper offers a variety of styles, such as gauge, absolute and differential pressure measurement, including many low-cost pressure transducers. We also offer units with standard NPT and flush diaphragm pressure ports. Our ranges run from 0.5 psi to 60,000 psi with a variety of outputs including millivolt, voltage and current.
It’s important to know the differences between components with each output before deciding which is correct for your company’s application:
Millivolt Output: If you need a low-cost pressure transducer, this is the best option. These types are typically the most economical. The output is nominally around 30mV, but actually directly proportional to the input power or excitation. These transducers are not ideal for placement in electronically-noisy surroundings, because they have a low output signal. They should be close to the readout instrument for accurate results.
Voltage Output: Integral signal conditioning is included in this type of transducer, which provides an output much higher than that of a millivolt output transducer, typically at around 0-5Vdc or 0-10Vdc. Though dependent on specific model, output is normally not a direct result of excitation in these units, which means unregulated power supplies can be sufficient if they’re within a specified power range. These are better for highly industrial environments, since electrical noise does not as affect them as much.
4-20 mA Output: Also known as pressure transmitters, these transducers have the perfect signal to be the least susceptible to electrical noise and signal-wire resistance, meaning they apply well in situations where the signal needs to be transmitted long distances — lengths of 1000 feet or more aren’t uncommon.
Customization and Calibration with Cooper Instruments & Systems
If you’re looking to buy industrial pressure transducers online, you’ve come to the right company. We don’t just distribute what you find in our website inventory. We also manufacture much of our equipment, which gives us the freedom to make modifications if you don’t find what you need.
First, call us at 1-800-344-3921 or 540-349-4746 so we can try to find the perfect device. If we can’t find it, we’ll create a custom piece of equipment by modifying specifications on existing pressure transducers to meet your needs or OEM standards.
Another popular service we provide our customers is calibration of all equipment, including digital pressure transducers and other pressure transducers. For quality, NIST-traceable calibration services completed on state-of-the-art equipment, you can trust our company. We offer 17025 and ASTM E74 calibration through our partner network. You can opt into our contracts with terms of one, two or three years for guaranteed locked-in prices, sign-up discounts and many other benefits, including:
Automated notifications to alert you of calibration due dates for all equipment
Priority technical support from our experts via phone or email
Deliveries priority-handled and on time with calibration schedule
Additional two months of warranty on calibration services
Easy access to historical equipment calibration data
